Major Crimes Investigating Accidental Shooting Death of Six-Year-Old Boy

Gaithersburg, MD — The Montgomery County Department of Police – Major Crimes Division is investigating the death of a 6-year-old boy in Montgomery Village.

On Tuesday, February 17, 2026 at approximately 2:45 p.m., 6th District officers and Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service personnel responded to the 10100 block of Maple Leaf Drive for a report of a shooting.

First responders entered the townhome and located Lascelle Lee IV suffering from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to the face. Officers and Fire Rescue personnel provided life-saving efforts, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The child was inside the townhome with one adult at the time of the shooting and the adult called 9-1-1.

Preliminary investigation determined that the handgun involved was legally registered. No foul play is suspected.

The investigation remains ongoing.
