On Tuesday, Aug. 11, from 7-9 p.m., the Montgomery County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) will hold a virtual (online only) public hearing to discuss the proposed traffic calming improvements along Pooks Hill Road in Bethesda. The public will have an opportunity to ask questions.
The 0.4-mile section of Pooks Hill Road connecting Linden Avenue to MD 355 (Rockville Pike), is classified as a neighborhood street and has a posted speed limit of 25 mph. Following a review of the crash history, traffic speeds, and traffic/pedestrian volumes along Pooks Hill Road, MCDOT has identified several improvements to enhance safety for all roadway users.
The proposed improvements include installing longitudinal bar crosswalks at the existing pedestrian crossings and making pavement-marking changes to narrow the travel way and provide bicycle lanes. Some existing parking areas will be repurposed to accommodate bicycle lanes, and concrete islands will be installed in parking-restricted areas to reinforce sign messaging. Double-yellow centerline markings will be added along a short section of Pooks Hill Road to better organize opposing traffic flow. These improvements have been developed in response to concerns regarding vehicle speeds and unsafe driving behavior, pedestrian crossing safety at intersections, and violations of on-street parking restrictions.

Invitations will be sent to affected communities, civic groups, and homeowner associations along Pooks Hill Road.

Sorry I missed this. WHAT?? The road is a mess already. Building the Astrid has made the problem much worse.
Narrow the road?? There is no room for bike lanes!! Cars already back up from Wisconsin Ave, especially in the morning.
The islands and cross walks that were put in are a hazard for the buses already. I assume it is Astrid residents parking there. Cars ignore the NO Parking line.
Have you been on the 30 bus going to Bethesda, especially at night ?? Buses have inches to squeak by.
What idiot narrowed the road at the corner before Linden? Yes, to give more room for school bus pick up, but it is now a serious disaster waiting to happen. Moving trucks and large delivery trucks can’t make the bearing right up PH RD, without swinging out into the opposite lane. Any accident there means all of us up PH Rd are trapped (7-9am & 4-6pm) till any such accident is cleared since we are not supposed to turn right out to Beech or Old Georgetown.
We need to be able to turn right coming down PH Rd at all hours, as traffic gets backed up from down at Wisconsin Ave. We are the neighborhood, not pass through commuters.
Ticket the people turning left onto Linden.
