Collision Reconstruction Unit Investigates Lockwood Drive Fatality; Victim’s Identity Released

For Immediate Release: Thursday, January 15, 2026

Gaithersburg, MD – Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – Collision Reconstruction Unit are investigating a fatal collision that occurred on Wednesday, January 14, 2026. The collision resulted in the death of 15-year-old Tayeba Rezaie, of Pasadena, MD.  

 

At approximately 11:19 a.m., 3rd District officers and Montgomery County Fire Rescue personnel responded to the location for the report of a collision between two vehicles.

 

The investigation has revealed that a white Lexus GS350 was traveling southbound on Lockwood Drive, approaching Northwest Drive. Witnesses reported that the Lexus overtook a RideOn Flash Bus before reaching the intersection at Northwest Drive. Upon entering the intersection of Lockwood Drive and Northwest Drive, the driver of the Lexus veered left to avoid colliding with a Toyota Corolla, which was headed eastbound through the intersection on Northwest Drive in an easterly direction. The Lexus clipped the front of the Toyota and subsequently began to lose control before leaving the roadway and crashing into a wooden utility pole.

 

Rezaie, a passenger in the Lexus, was pronounced dead at the scene. A 20-year-old female passenger in the Lexus was transported to an area hospital in critical condition.

The 18-year-old male driver of the Lexus sustained minor injuries and was not transported. A 28-year-old female occupant in the Lexus sustained minor injuries and was taken to the hospital.

 

The driver of the Toyota did not report any injuries and was not transported.

 

This remains an active investigation and may take several weeks to months to complete. Anyone with information regarding this collision is asked to contact the Collision Reconstruction Unit at 240-773-6620.
