Social Studies Holding Series of Curriculum Nights

The Social Studies team is hosting a series of Curriculum Night webinars for families to learn more about how social studies is taught in MCPS and how its curricula in kindergarten through 11th grade incorporate the history of various ethnic and cultural groups. The webinars will be held from 6:30โ€“7:30 p.m. on the following dates:

  • Thursday, Sept. 12โ€“Black and African American History
  • Thursday, Sept. 26โ€“Asian History
  • Thursday, Oct. 10โ€“Hispanic History
  • Thursday, Oct. 24โ€“Arab History
  • Thursday, Nov. 7โ€“Indigenous History of the United States
  • Thursday, Dec. 5โ€“LGBTQ+ History (Middle and High School Only)
  • Thursday, Dec. 12โ€“Jewish History

To attend, families must register at the above links and a link to attend the webinar will be sent to them.


Make Plans to Join Us!

As part of Superintendent Thomas Taylorโ€™s entry plan, he will be meeting with as many stakeholders as possible to learn more about the Montgomery County community. Part of this includes upcoming listening sessions at three schools. Save the date for one of these sessions:

  • Monday, Sept. 16, Poolesville High School, 17501 West Willard Road, Poolesville, 7โ€“8 p.m.
  • Wednesday, Sept. 18,ย (Updated Location)Rockville High School, 2100 Baltimore Road, Rockville, 7โ€“8 p.m.
  • Monday, Sept. 23, Montgomery Blair High School, 51 University Blvd. East, Silver Spring, 7โ€“8 p.m.

Interpretation services will be available in Spanish.

Watkins Mill Cluster Hosting Block Party on Sept. 14

The Watkins Mill cluster will host a Back-to-School Block Party from noonโ€“3 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 14. It is just one of the events happening throughout September to welcome back students. The event will be held rain or shine at Watkins Mill High School, 10301 Apple Ridge Road in Gaithersburg.

The event is open to families within the Watkins Mill cluster, including Montgomery Village and Neelsville middle schools, along with Watkins Mill, Stedwick, Whetstone and South Lake elementary schools. 

More than 40 community partners will offer resources and information to families during the event. Community partners include: CASA, Identity, City of Gaithersburg Youth Services, Montgomery County Public Libraries, Parent Encouragement Program, fitness groups, Boys and Girls Clubs, and Infants and Toddlers Emory Grove. There will also be food trucks, music, raffles and student performances.
