October is National Principals Month. Throughout the month, MCPS is recognizing the dedicated leaders who guide our schools and support students, staff and families every day. To celebrate, we’re highlighting a few principals around the county to learn more about what inspires them and the impact they hope to make in their school communities. Get to know these leaders, their passions and a few fun facts.
How long have you been with MCPS? I started with MCPS in 2003. This is my 24th year with the school system.
How long have you been at Cashell Elementary School? It’s my 10th year with the Cashell team.
What keeps you inspired and motivated in your work as a principal? I really enjoy the Cashell community. Cashell is a special place to be. We have a great team!
What’s one thing your students or staff have taught you? Students always remind me that it’s easy to take things too seriously. Spending time with students reminds me to find the fun or humor in situations when you can.

What’s one thing you hope every student feels when they walk through your school’s doors? I hope that every student at Cashell feels cared for when they are in the school building.
What’s an interesting/fun fact that not everyone knows about you? I joined the after-school sewing club with Cashell students last year. I started to learn how to use a sewing machine! It was one of the best parts of my day!

What impact do you think principals have on the greater community? Principals have the ability to bring out some spirit in a school group. We can help to foster a sense of pride and belonging in the community.
