For Immediate Release: Thursday, February 12, 2026

The March of Dimes Mobile Health Bus to Offer Onsite Tours and Showcase Maternal Health Services

Montgomery County Alcohol Beverage Services (ABS) will present a $95,224.83 check to March of Dimes on behalf of customers who donated during the recent five-week “Labor of Love” campaign. The check presentation will take place at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 18, at the ABS Olney retail store, located at 17825 Georgia Ave.

New this year, the March of Dimes Mobile Health Bus will be on site and open for tours. The bus delivers maternal health services and education to mothers and expectant mothers throughout Maryland.

ABS’s “Labor of Love” campaign supports the March of Dimes’ mission to improve maternal health, promote healthy pregnancies, and reduce disparities through research, education, and advocacy. ABS and UFCW Local 1994 MCGEO, the County’s employee labor union, organized the campaign with the support of County Executive Marc Elrich.

Officials from ABS, UFCW Local 1994 MCGEO, March of Dimes, and corporate partners Tito’s Handmade Vodka, William Grant & Sons (maker of Glenfiddich Scotch and Balvenie Scotch), and Breakthru Beverage will participate in the check presentation. The ceremony is open to the public.

The Olney store was the campaign’s top-performing location for the third consecutive year.

The campaign ran from Nov. 23 through Dec. 31, 2025. During that time, employees at ABS’s 27 retail stores invited customers to round up their purchases to the nearest dollar or make a larger donation. In addition to customer contributions, Tito’s Handmade Vodka pledged $10,000 and William Grant & Sons pledged $5,000, bringing the total donation to more than $110,000.

“Since 1938, March of Dimes has been dedicated to improving the health of mothers and babies and reducing health disparities through research, education, and advocacy,” said County Executive Elrich. “I applaud Alcohol Beverage Services and MCGEO for this year’s record-breaking ‘Labor of Love’ campaign in support of this important mission. I also want to thank the customers whose generosity at ABS retail stores helps ensure every mother and baby has the opportunity to thrive, regardless of background.”

The March of Dimes works to:

  • Fund and support innovative research to address maternal and infant health challenges.
  • Advocate for policies that prioritize the health of mothers and babies.
  • Provide education and resources to help families have healthy pregnancies, regardless of wealth, race, gender or geography.

“We are deeply grateful for this partnership and for the continued commitment of the Montgomery County community,” said Kate Leib, senior executive director of the March of Dimes DMV Market. “Together, we are strengthening maternal and infant health across our region and ensuring that families have the support they need—today and for generations to come.”

According to March of Dimes, two women in the United States die each day from pregnancy-related causes; two infants die every hour; and one in 10 babies is born prematurely. More information is available on the March of Dimes website.

“Supporting March of Dimes aligns with our Department’s longstanding commitment to health and safety,” said ABS Director Kathie Durbin. “This campaign extends that commitment by helping ensure every mother and baby has the best possible start.”

ABS is the alcohol wholesaler of beer, wine and spirits for Montgomery County and operates 27 retail stores throughout the County. In addition, ABS manages alcohol licensing, enforcement and education for more than 1,000 businesses.
