ROCKVILLE, Md., Oct. 12, 2026—Today at 12:30 p.m., Montgomery County Council President Natali Fani-González will hold a press briefing with Montgomery County Economic Development Corporation (MCEDC) President and CEO Jared Smith. The briefing will follow the Council’s Economic Development Committee meeting and will highlight the goals of MCEDC’s 2026 Countywide Strategic Plan.
County leaders work collaboratively with MCEDC to drive and promote sustainable growth and economic opportunity across Montgomery County. The overall purpose of the new strategic plan is to “create a thriving, connected, and inclusive economic ecosystem, while enhancing the County’s reputation as a top destination to live, work, and do business.” In 2021, the Council enacted Bill 10-21, which designated MCEDC to lead the development of a countywide economic strategic plan.
The Council President will also highlight the County’s nearly $4.2 million Economic Development Fund, which provides financial incentives to businesses looking to expand operations or relocate to Montgomery County. This includes funding to support the following investments in the County’s future: the Economic Development Grant and Loan Program, the Biotechnology Credit Supplement, the MOVE Program, the Small Business Innovation Research and Small Business Technology Transfer Matching Grant Program and the Impact Assistance Fund.
The Council President’s briefing is open to the public and will be held in the Potomac River Conference Room located on the sixth floor of the Council Office Building at 100 Maryland Ave. in Rockville (directions). The briefing will be recorded and posted on the Council’s YouTube (MoCoCouncilMD) page following the meeting.
