Gaithersburg, MD – The Montgomery County Department of Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating the death of an 83-year-old Silver Spring man after he was struck by a pickup truck in the parking lot of a Rockville gas station.
Charles S. Lazar was transported to an area hospital following the collision on Friday, October 9, 2026. His condition deteriorated overnight, and he died from his injuries on Saturday, October 10.
At approximately 8:36 a.m., Rockville City Police officers and Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service personnel responded to the FreeState gas station in the 500 block of Hungerford Road for the report of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle.
Upon arrival, responders located Lazar in the parking lot suffering from serious injuries.
The preliminary investigation determined that Lazar was walking north through the parking lot from the gas station toward his parked vehicle. The driver of a white 2016 Chevrolet Silverado was pulling away from a fuel pump toward Hungerford Road when the vehicle struck Lazar.
The driver stayed at the scene and showed no signs of impairment.
The investigation remains ongoing and may take several weeks or months to complete.
