Rockville, Maryland- In the Circuit Court for Montgomery County, MD, before the Honorable Debra Dwyer, a jury has found defendant Jorden Hungerford, 20, guilty of first-degree murder, armed robbery, conspiracy to commit armed robbery, and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. This stems from the murder of 20-year-old Henry Krishawn Gilbert of Montgomery Village. The jury returned its verdict on May 18, 2026, following a ten-day trial.
Hungerford faces the potential of life in prison plus an additional 60 years. A sentencing hearing will be scheduled before Judge Dwyer.
On April 26, 2025, on Brookridge Court in Gaithersburg, the victim, Henry Gilbert, was found deceased inside a green Honda Civic that had struck a curb with the engine still running. He had been shot in the head, execution style, while sitting in his vehicle. Following an investigation by the Montgomery County Police Homicide Unit, Hungerford and co-defendant Demari Brown, 21, of Montgomery Village, were arrested. The investigation determined Hungerford posed as a female friend of the victim via social media messages, luring the victim to the location by requesting to buy seventy dollars’ worth of marijuana from him. The defendants then arrived at Brookridge Court, where they robbed and shot Gilbert.
Brown pleaded guilty to first-degree murder and is scheduled for a sentencing hearing on September 1, 2026. He faces the potential of life in prison.
Assistant State’s Attorneys Teresa Casafranca and Lauren Turner are prosecuting the case.
“This senseless and unnecessary loss of a young member of our community centers around the illegal purchase of marijuana,” said State’s Attorney John McCarthy. “Despite the decriminalization of cannabis, illegal sales continue, and the illegal buying and selling of marijuana is the most violent drug market in Montgomery County. Almost invariably, when a life is lost in connection with the distribution of drugs, the drug involved is marijuana. We are grateful that justice has been served in this case with both defendants facing the potential of life in prison.”
