The featured guests on this week’s edition of En Sintonia con el Concejo del Condado de Montgomery (In Tune with the Montgomery County Council) will include Oscar Mendez, program manager with the Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service (MCFRS), and Eduardo Levi Mendes, VITA program specialist II at the Department of Health and Human Services’ Office of Community Affairs. The show will air on Friday, July 17 at 2 p.m. on Radio America (WILC 900AM) and is streamed on Apple Podcasts, Spotify and Amazon Music.
The program will begin with a conversation featuring Oscar Mendez with the Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services, who will share valuable information about staying safe during extreme heat. He will discuss the health risks associated with heat waves, how to recognize the warning signs of heat-related illnesses, and provide practical tips for staying cool, hydrated and protected. Listeners will also learn how to prepare for periods of excessive heat, check on vulnerable family members and neighbors, and access community resources that can help keep everyone safe during hot weather.
The second half of the program will focus on the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program and the post-tax season services available to Montgomery County residents. The segment will highlight the continued support offered to individuals and families who still need to file current or prior-year tax returns, including guidance on gathering required documents, determining eligibility for free tax preparation services, and scheduling appointments with VITA volunteers.
The Montgomery County Council and Radio America have entered a partnership that provides the Latino community with key information on issues and programs. The partnership also provides a forum for residents to express their views and ask questions. The partnership includes the weekly one-hour show each Friday on the Washington metropolitan area’s most popular Spanish language station.
Each week, the show features host Marcela Rodriguez, Council program manager and public information officer, and guests talking about important issues before the Council and provides information about programs offered by the County to help residents.
