Age-Friendly Montgomery to Host a Virtual Conversation on Maryland’s ‘Longevity Ready’ Plan to Shape the Future of Aging in Maryland on Friday, March 28

For Immediate Release: Wednesday, March 19, 2025

Age-Friendly Montgomery invites residents to a virtual conversation about “Longevity Ready Maryland,” Maryland’s statewide effort to help residents age well. The discussion will take place from noon-1 p.m. on Friday, March 28.

Age-Friendly Montgomery is an initiative that works to enhance the County as a place where all residents can thrive to their full potential. It contributes to making Montgomery County a stronger and more inclusive community. The “Longevity Ready Maryland” plan, developed by the Maryland Department of Aging (MDOA) in partnership with government, business and nonprofit organizations, addresses more than just health care. It focuses on community accessibility and long-term strategies for Marylanders of all ages.

During the event, participants will be able to share their thoughts on what should be included to ensure a thriving, age-friendly state. Residents interested in participating can access the meeting using this Zoom link . For more information or to request an accommodation, contact Shawn Brennan at [email protected] or 240-777-1350.

“We are committed to making sure people can live well at every stage of life,” said Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich. “Aging should be viewed as something we prepare for together by creating communities that are safe, welcoming and supportive for everyone. ‘Longevity Ready Maryland’ gives residents an opportunity to help shape how we plan for the future, and I hope people will take part and share their ideas.”

During the virtual session, Shawn Brennan, program manager for Age-Friendly Montgomery, will present the plan’s “Epic Goals” and highlights. Participants will be invited to share their feedback, which will be submitted to the MDOA. The draft “Longevity Ready Maryland” plan is available for review on the “Longevity Ready Maryland” website .

“Montgomery County has been an Age-Friendly community since 2015—we are celebrating our tenth anniversary this year,” said Robin Riley, co-chair of Age-Friendly Montgomery and director of Montgomery County Recreation. “We are thrilled to see Maryland embrace a multi-sector planning process that is so similar to the Age-Friendly planning process we have undertaken.”

Being age-friendly is not just about older adults—it’s about creating communities where people of all ages can thrive. This includes safe streets for walking and biking, accessible housing, robust public transportation options, opportunities for lifelong learning and programs that foster intergenerational connections.
