Protecting Yourself Against Vehicle Theft & Break-ins

Keeping your vehicles safe and deterring potential criminals from targeting you remains a priority throughout the year. While remembering to use safe habits every day such as always locking your vehicles when you leave them, it’s a good idea to review helpful safety tips that industry experts advise can reduce your chances of being a victim of vehicle thefts and break-ins.

Preventative Measures You Can Take Include:

  • Always lock your vehicle and close the windows completely. 
  • Never leave your engine running with the vehicle unlocked while you quickly run into a business, your home, or anywhere else.
  • Park in well-lit, secure areas. 
  • Remove valuables or ensure they are out of sight. 
  • Employ visible or audible deterrents like alarms, steering wheel locks, or decals. 
  • Consider installing a vehicle immobilizer or GPS tracking system.
  • When purchasing a used vehicle, always make sure you receive an ownership certificate.
  • Never keep the vehicle’s title inside your vehicle; store this document in a secure location such as a safe at home or a bank safety deposit box.
  • If you see someone acting suspiciously near your vehicle, report it to the police.
  • Consider a car cover to hide your vehicle from sight.

  • 7/21/26, a female, age 33, was arrested for shoplifting in the Unit Blk. Upper Rock Circle.
  • 7/24/26, two (2) males and one (1) female, ages 52, 28, and 27 were arrested for shoplifting in the 1600 Blk. Rockville PIke. One of the males also had an active arrest warrant.
  • 7/25/26, a female, age 54, was arrested for DUI in the 600 Blk. W. Montgomery Avenue.
  • 7/26/26, a male, age 38, was arrested for domestic assault in the 200 Blk. Spring Avenue.
  • 7/26/26, a male, age 66, was arrested on an outstanding arrest warrant through the Montgomery County Police Department in the Unit Blk. W. Montgomery Avenue.

  • 200 Blk. Richard Montgomery Drive, four unknown subjects vandalized school property between 2:50 a.m. and 3:10 a.m. on 7/21/26.
  • 1200 Blk. W. Montgomery Avenue, a known subject refused to pay for services rendered between 2/7/26 and 6/7/26. Incident reported on 7/21/26. The victim was referred for charges.
  • 1100 Blk. Elmcroft Boulevard, an unknown subject stole and cashed a check sent via US Mail between 7/17/26 and 7/20/26.
  • Unit Blk. Upper Rock Circle, a known subject vandalized a vehicle between 6:15 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. on 7/21/26. The victim was referred for charges.
