Montgomery County’s Free Tax Assistance Program to Celebrate Earned Income Tax Credit Awareness Day on Friday, Jan. 26

For Immediate Release: Thursday, January 25, 2024

Partners delivering Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) services will join community leaders at WorkSource Montgomery in Wheaton at 2 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 26, to highlight the importance of claiming the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) and to raise awareness about free tax assistance for those who qualify. Recent changes to the law mean more taxpayers are eligible for money through the EITC program on the state and federal levels.

VITA programs can help lower-income Montgomery County residents file their 2023 Maryland and Federal tax returns and learn about valuable tax credits. Free tax preparation services are for County residents with household incomes of $64,000 or less. The Community Action Agency manages the County’s only year-round VITA site.

The event will include remarks from County Councilmember Gabe Albornoz, Department of Health and Human Services Director James Bridgers, a Community Action Agency VITA volunteer and a VITA client. Also participating are representatives from the Internal Revenue Service, AARP, CASA, the Equity Center, CASH Campaign of Maryland and the Gaithersburg Financial Empowerment Center.

What: Free Tax Help and EITC Awareness Day

When: Friday, Jan. 26, 2-3 p.m.

Where: 11510 Georgia Ave., 3rd Floor, Wheaton, WorkSource Montgomery Job Center
