Free Book Fair and Meet-the-Author Event Set for Sunday, Nov. 22 in Wheaton
Montgomery County Public Libraries (MCPL) will host its second annual Local Author Showcase from 1-4 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 22, at the Wheaton Library and adjoining Wheaton Community Recreation Center, located at 11701 Georgia Ave. in Wheaton.
The free, family-friendly event will celebrate a diverse community of local writers and their work, bringing together authors, readers, and aspiring storytellers for an afternoon of books, conversations, and activities for all ages.
“Montgomery County has a lot of talented writers, and this showcase gives them a chance to share their work with people in their own community,” said County Executive Marc Elrich. “Libraries bring people together. They give us a chance to discover new ideas, hear from people with different backgrounds and experiences, and see things from another perspective. I encourage residents and families to come out, meet local authors, and find a book that interests them.”
Attendees will have opportunities to meet 30 local authors, participate in genre-based panel discussions, and learn about the writing, publishing, and marketing processes. Planned activities include meet-and-greets with local authors, a Friends of the Library book sale, industry panels on marketing and publishing, a child-friendly “Read to a Superhero” activity, and a teen zine workshop. During this hands-on workshop, teens will learn to design, write, and assemble their own independent, self-published mini-magazines.

“The Showcase has grown immensely from its debut year, now featuring 30 diverse authors,” said MCPL Director Darcell Graham. “We look forward to another year of celebrating writers and readers as residents across the County come together to foster meaningful connections.”
Author selections for this year’s showcase are closed. Writers interested in participating in future showcases are encouraged to watch for more information about next year’s event.
