The Montgomery County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) and Montgomery County Public Libraries (MCPL) are excited to announce the return of the Monster Flash Haunted Bus Tour and Bilingual Story Hour to two MCPL libraries on Saturday, Oct. 24. The Monster Flash bus will also be at HalloWheaton on Sunday, Oct. 25. These events are free to attend.
Monster Flash will return for the third annual Halloween celebration at Twinbrook Library in Rockville and Germantown Library in Germantown. Children and families can explore MCDOT’s Monster Flash, a not-so-spooky “haunted” bus, and learn more about the planned Flash Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) network coming to Montgomery County. The community events will feature bilingual Spanish/English and Chinese/English story times and a dance party with MCDOT’s Zeal the Safety Zebra.
“I want to thank MCDOT and MCPL for bringing our community together once again to celebrate Halloween in a way that showcases our County’s amenities and services,” said County Executive Marc Elrich. “I hope families will take the opportunity to visit the Twinbrook and Germantown libraries for stories and dancing, and to learn more about the Flash BRT network we are building. These transit projects will have a positive impact on the quality of life for so many of our residents by providing frequent transit and safe connections to stations.”
Monster Flash can be found at these locations:
- Saturday, Oct. 24, 10 a.m. – noon. Monster Flash at Twinbrook Library, Twinbrook Library, 202 Meadow Hall Drive, Rockville.
- Saturday, Oct. 24, 2 – 4 p.m. Monster Flash at Germantown Library, Germantown Library, 19840 Century Blvd, Germantown.
- Sunday, Oct. 25, noon – 4 p.m. Monster Flash at HalloWheaton, Marian Fryer Town Plaza, 2424 Reedie Drive, Wheaton.
“MCPL is thrilled to be partnering with MCDOT for the third consecutive year to bring the ‘not-so-spooky’ Monster Flash bus to our communities,” said MCPL Director Darcell Graham. “We look forward to sharing stories with our families, showing off our best dance moves, and coming together in celebration of community.”
Flash BRT offers fast, frequent, and convenient service running every seven to 15 minutes on weekdays and every 30 minutes on weekends. Flash buses, like all Montgomery County Ride On buses, are free for all riders.
Flash BRT is currently operating along US 29 Colesville Rd/Columbia Pike between Silver Spring Transit Center and Briggs Chaney, with extended service to Howard County during weekday rush hours.
“We are bringing Monster Flash to the Rockville and Germantown communities to introduce residents to the Flash BRT network,” said MCDOT Director Chris Conklin. “Our US 29 Flash BRT line is consistently one of the top five most popular bus routes, and recently expanded service to downtown Columbia. Our next Flash BRT route, along Veirs Mill Road, is expected to open in 2028, and includes a stop at Twinbrook Parkway where Twinbrook Library is located. I encourage local residents to stop by and learn more about the upcoming bus network.”
MCDOT is building the Flash BRT network across the County. Flash BRT routes offer faster, high-frequency bus service and upgraded pedestrian and bicycle connectivity to transit stations. Veirs Mill Road Flash BRT is next in line and has begun utility construction. The central section of MD 355/Rockville Pike Flash BRT is currently in the design phase.
