On February 8, 2024, Montgomery County Police officers located the body of 35-year-old Delondre Sawyer in a wooded area on Game Preserve Road in Gaithersburg. He had been shot in the back of his head. An investigation determined that on February 7, 2024, Sawyer was sitting behind the wheel of a 2013 gold Honda Accord when he was shot. His body was then left in the woods. There were three other individuals inside the vehicle at the time of the shooting, including Brown and co-defendant DeAngelo McRoy. The State believes Brown was the shooter. The victim and defendants met several hours earlier at an apartment in the 7900 block of Spiceberry Circle in Gaithersburg. Defendant McCroy asked the victim to drive the group to another destination. The shooting occurred while the victim was driving. Brown was sitting in a rear passenger seat directly behind the victim when he fired one shot to the back of Delondre Sawyer’s head. The victim was stripped naked, dragged into the wooded area, and left there. His vehicle was later seen on surveillance footage at a gas station located in the 700 block of Progress Way in Gaithersburg and eventually recovered by police in the 19000 block of Breezedale Lane in Germantown. Quinnton Brown was present when the vehicle was found. The defendants also stole several items from the victim, including a backpack and multiple credit cards.
On October 22, 2025, a jury found co-defendant DeAngelo McRoy guilty on charges of first-degree murder, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, armed carjacking, and armed robbery. His sentencing hearing is pending. A third co-defendant pleaded guilty to accessory-after-the-fact to first-degree murder.
