Montgomery County Public Libraries to Modify Sunday Service Options Beginning Jan. 11, 2026 – Mocofeed

Posted on December 1, 2025

For Immediate Release: Monday, December 1, 2025

Montgomery County Public Libraries (MCPL) announces a change that will impact Sunday service, starting Jan. 11, 2026. MCPL will reduce the number of libraries open on Sunday to ensure consistent staffing, sustainable operations, and enhance Sunday programming that benefits the community.

The branches that will continue to operate on Sundays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. are:

  • Olney
  • Rockville Memorial
  • Wheaton
  • White Oak

SUNDAY HOURS UPDATE MCPL

The focused Sunday schedule will allow MCPL to offer more robust programming, including reading events for children, programs for teens, and other special activities. Each geographic area will continue to have at least one branch open on Sundays with increased staffing. Leaders realize it remains important to serve the community (including older adults) while maintaining accessibility across the County.

“Montgomery County Public Libraries remains committed to providing exceptional service to our residents,” said MCPL Director Darcell Graham. “The adjustment to Sunday service hours is part of our ongoing efforts to enhance efficiency and ensure we continue meeting the evolving needs of the community. We appreciate the public’s continued support and welcome feedback as we move through this transition.”

MCPL’s electric outreach van will offer select services in communities where branches are closed on Sundays. The van features deployable shelving allowing customers to browse a selection of materials, manage their account, and return borrowed items.

The community is encouraged to share feedback about the change through a dedicated feedback form accessible on the library website and through MCPL’s Facebook and X pages.
