Silver Spring Woman Dies in Fatal Randolph Road Collision

Gaithersburg, MD – Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) are investigating a fatal three-vehicle collision that occurred on Thursday, August 7, 2025.

The victim, 85-year-old Josephine Gieske of Silver Spring, died from injuries sustained in the collision.

At approximately 8 a.m., 4th District officers and Montgomery County Fire Rescue personnel responded to the intersection of Randolph Road and Sherwood Forest Drive for the report of a collision involving three vehicles.

The preliminary investigation has revealed that a silver 2025 Toyota GR86 was traveling west on Randolph Road when it struck a red 2011 Toyota 4-Runner that was turning left from eastbound Randolph Road onto Sherwood Forest Drive. The impact caused the 4-Runner to roll over and strike a black 2025 Buick Envista.

Gieske, a passenger in the 4-Runner, was transported to an area hospital with serious injuries. On Friday, August 22, 2025, she died because of her injuries. The driver of the 4-Runner was also transported with serious injuries. The driver of the GR86 was transported with injuries, and the driver of the Buick reported no injuries.

There was a delay in reporting the death of Gieske to MCPD and CRU has now assumed investigative responsibility.
