Developers and industry leaders to share experiences using relaxed zoning to build a variety of housing types.
WHEATON, Md. – The Montgomery County Planning Board , part of The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission (M-NCPPC), invites community members to attend the third and final panel of its 2024 Speaker Series, “Housing Conversation: From Research to Reality,” on Thursday, October 17, 2024. This three-part series, co-sponsored with National Center for Smart Growth at the University of Maryland, College Park, focuses on the latest housing-policy trends, and highlights what’s working to increase housing options and affordability nationwide.
The panel discussion, “Practitioner’s Panel: Implementation Successes and Areas of Focus” will feature developers and industry experts that have leveraged relaxed zoning and other creative tools to develop Missing Middle and other housing types. We’ll discover what worked, the challenges faced, and what they would do differently.
“Our goal was to learn from our colleagues across the nation to bring realistic and successful solutions to Montgomery County’s housing crisis, and the 2024 Speaker Series has done just that,” said Planning Board Chair Artie Harris. “This final panel is the perfect culmination of our series, offering more insights that we can apply here to shape the future of housing in Montgomery County.”
