Council President Natali Fani-González’s Statement on the Passing of Charles L. “Chuck” Short – Mocofeed

“The Council is deeply saddened to learn about the passing of Chuck Short, a lifelong public servant, visionary community leader, educator, mentor and friend. His dedication to our community and commitment to making Montgomery County an outstanding place to live is remembered by everyone who knew him.

“Today the Council reflects on Mr. Shorts’ incredible legacy of public service dating back more than 50 years in Montgomery County government serving as a special assistant, Department of Human Resources director, Department of Health and Human Services director and more. Until his retirement, Mr. Short served under every Montgomery County executive since the office was first established. 

“He was inducted into the Montgomery County Human Rights Hall of Fame in 2022, recognized for his dedication to County residents and commitment to improving health outcomes for children, youth and families. Beyond his immense dedication to public service, he is remembered warmly for his compassion and willingness to help others. His mentorship has guided and inspired generations of government and nonprofit leaders. 

“We extend our deepest condolences to his wife Maureen, his children and his entire family. As we keep them in our thoughts and prayers, may Chuck’s legacy continue to serve as a guiding light for us all.”
