Rockville, MD– In Circuit Court for Montgomery County, MD, before the Honorable David Lease, defendant Brody Richardson, 20, of Boyds, entered a guilty plea to one count of Grossly Negligent Manslaughter by Motor Vehicle and one count of Homicide by Motor Vehicle While Under the Influence of Alcohol Per Se. The plea hearing was held on August 5, 2026. This stems from an incident on July 21, 2025, in Germantown, when Richardson caused a collision that killed 71-year-old Mary Elizabeth Moody.
A sentencing hearing is scheduled for October 30, 2026. Per the plea agreement, the defendant faces a maximum of seven years in prison.

An investigation by the Montgomery County Police Collision Reconstruction Unit determined that Richardson had a blood alcohol concentration of .20 when he caused the crash on July 21, 2025, at approximately 10:30 p.m. The defendant was operating a 2021 Mazda 3 northbound on Great Seneca Highway. He struck a 2018 Subaru Forester operated by Mary Elizabeth Moody as she was making a left turn from southbound Great Seneca Highway onto Mateny Road. The investigation determined that Richardson’s vehicle was traveling at approximately 94 miles per hour at the time of the crash. The defendant admitted to drinking and using marijuana before driving. Surveillance video and a receipt from Travilah Beer & Wine in Rockville showed that Richardson had consumed five beers between arriving at the store at 6:57 p.m. and departing at 10:17 p.m. Two employees of the store have pleaded guilty to Selling Alcoholic Beverage to an Individual Under the age of 21 and are pending sentencing.
Assistant State’s Attorney Jordan Kramer is prosecuting these matters.
