The following is a summary of events regarding an officer involved shooting on Lost Knife Road.
On Sunday, July 12, 2026, at approximately 6:47 PM, Montgomery County Police 6th District officers and Gaithersburg City Police Officers were dispatched to the 9600 block of Lost Knife Road for a weapons complaint.
The caller reported that there was an adult male loading a gun at the bus stop in front of the Montgomery Village Plaza. Once on scene, officers located the subject and attempted deescalation techniques to peacefully resolve the incident.
Officers also worked to clear the crowded parking lot of the shopping plaza. While interacting with the subject, the adult male took actions which caused the officers to discharge their service weapons.
Officers provided medical assistance until Montgomery County Fire Rescue arrived on scene.
The adult male was pronounced dead and a handgun was recovered on scene.
No officers or bystanders were injured.
The circumstances leading to the shooting remain under active investigation. Per Maryland law, the investigation into the shooting has been handed over the Maryland Attorney General’s Independent Investigations Division (IID). All media inquiries should be directed to the IID.
