The Maryland Office of the Attorney Generalโs Independent Investigations Division (IID) announced Monday that it is delaying the release of preliminary information regarding Sundayโs fatal officer-involved shooting in Gaithersburg.
The shooting occurred on July 12 on Lost Knife Road after Montgomery County and Gaithersburg police responded to reports of an armed man. According to authorities, officers attempted to de-escalate the situation before the encounter ended in an officer-involved shooting. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Independent Investigations Division, which is responsible for investigating fatal police-involved shootings in Maryland, said it needs additional time to review information before releasing its preliminary findings.
Investigators are continuing to seek witnesses and are asking anyone with information about the incidentโincluding cellphone video or private surveillance footageโto contact the IID.

BALTIMORE, MD โ The Independent Investigations Division (IID) of the Maryland Office of the Attorney General is delaying the release of preliminary information in the fatal police-involved shooting that occurred in Gaithersburg, Montgomery County, on Sunday, July 12, 2026.
The IID needs additional time to review information.
