Gaithersburg, MD – Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – 3rd District Investigative Section have arrested and charged 28-year-old Alexander Cleveland Hailey of White Oak in connection with an assault and kidnapping that occurred in the area of Piney Branch Road and Flower Avenue in Silver Spring on Sunday, May 24, 2026.
The investigation has revealed that Hailey entered a Lyft, driven by the victim. Once inside the vehicle Hailey pulled out a handgun and ordered the victim to drive. The victim stopped and fled the vehicle in the 8500 block of Piney Branch Road. Hailey then got out of the vehicle and left the scene, leaving behind items of evidentiary value.
During the investigation Hailey was developed as a suspect.
Detectives applied for and received an arrest warrant for Hailey on Thursday, May 28, 2026, charging him with first-degree assault, kidnapping and other related charges.
Hailey was located and arrested on Friday, May 29, 2026, in the 8400 block of Colesville Road in Silver Spring.
He was transported to the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit and charged accordingly for the assault and kidnapping.
