For Immediate Release: Tuesday, August 13, 2024

Gaithersburg, MD- 20-year-old Matthew Bugembe, 21-year-old Taejean Sipes and 23-year-old Deonte Roberts, all of Germantown have been arrested and charged with multiple handgun charges, following a traffic stop on Wednesday, August 7, 2024.
Officers from the Montgomery County Department of Police – 6th District Community Action Team were conducting an investigation when they noticed a gold Ford sedan circling the area.
Following a traffic violation, officers conducted a traffic stop on the Ford. During the traffic stop, officers observed one of the rear passengers, later identified as, Roberts, attempt to conceal a firearm inside the vehicle.
A search of the vehicle revealed a loaded, Privately Manufactured Firearm (PMF), which fell from the waistband of Sipes as he was exiting the vehicle, a loaded black and silver PMF in the possession of Bugembe and a camouflage Hi-Point model firearm that officers observed Roberts attempting to conceal. Additionally, controlled dangerous substance (CDS) was located inside the vehicle.
Bugembe, Sipes and Roberts were transported to the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit (CPU) where they are currently being held without bond.

All of these young men were already out on bond from previous arrests. At least two of them were gun related? What I don’t understand is why the charges were misdemeanors and not felonies. Can anyone explain that to me
