Housing experts from Oregon, St. Paul, MN, and Arlington, VA, will discuss how recent initiatives to increase housing supply in their jurisdictions are working and the lessons they’ve learned.
WHEATON, Md. – The Montgomery County Planning Board , part of The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission (M-NCPPC), invites community members to attend the second of its three-part 2024 Speaker Series, “Housing Conversations: From Research to Reality,” on Thursday, September 19, 2024 . Co-sponsored with the National Center for Smart Growth at the University of Maryland, College Park, these conversations with national and local experts and thought leaders focus on the latest housing-policy innovations and trends, and what’s working to increase housing options and affordability in neighborhoods nationwide.
The September 19 panel discussion, “A Tale from our Partners: Lessons Learned from the Trenches” will examine lessons learned from agencies that have already implemented attainable housing strategies and other plans to increase housing supply. Representatives from Oregon, St. Paul, MN, and Arlington, VA, will discuss the initiatives they helped develop in their jurisdictions over the past five years to encourage more housing development. Find out what worked, what didn’t work, what they would do differently, and what advice they have to offer.
“I am looking forward to what will surely be an informative and intriguing discussion,” said Planning Board Chair Artie Harris. “Montgomery County is among the many places across the nation experiencing a severe housing shortage. It is important that we learn from one another as we work to meet the growing demand for housing at different price points and types for all.”
The panel discussion will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at M-NCPPC Wheaton Headquarters (2425 Reedie Drive, Second Floor Auditorium, Wheaton, MD, 20902).
