The last day of school for MCPS students will be Thursday, June 18, 2026.

Posted on March 24, 2026

The last day of school for MCPS students will be Thursday, June 18, 2026.

March 24, 2026

Today, the Maryland State Board of Education approved a resolution to approve our request to waive three days of student attendance. This waiver, combined with April 15 as an early-release instructional day, allows MCPS to end the school year earlier than announced while meeting all state-required instructional time expectations.

After a winter of multiple weather-related closures, the adjusted calendar still meets and exceeds the state’s instructional requirements of 1,080 hours for elementary and middle school students and 1,170 hours for high school students. Our goal is to make learning time meaningful and we know that extending late into June would lose much of that meaning. We are pleased and appreciative that we can continue to provide all required learning time without extending the school year into late June, better supporting family schedules and avoiding expected high late spring absenteeism.

What This Means:

  • Monday, June 15 (full day)

  • Tuesday, June 16 (full day)

  • Wednesday, June 17 (full day)

  • Last Day of School – Thursday, June 18 (early release day)

Friday, June 19 (Juneteenth) remains a systemwide closure for the federal and state holiday (schools and offices are closed).

For Arcola Elementary School (Innovative Calendar School), the last day of school will be June 17.

As we move forward, MCPS is also preparing for future weather-related disruptions. Following a presentation to the Board of Education on March 26, MCPS will submit an Inclement Weather Virtual Learning Plan to the Maryland State Department of Education. Once approved, this plan will allow us to continue instruction through virtual learning during multi-day closures. We will also be reviewing next year’s school calendar to mitigate future interruptions.

You can see the proposed Virtual Learning Plan here.
