Sidewalk Construction Scheduled for Gilbert Road, Halsey Road, Vandegrift Avenue, and Virginia Avenue – Mocofeed

To improve pedestrian safety and accessibility, the City of Rockville will begin construction on new 5-foot-wide sidewalks along the following roadways in October 2026:

  • South side of Gilbert Road near the intersection with Edmonston Drive.
  • North side of Halsey Road between Gainsboro Road and Rockland Avenue. Driveways on the north side of Halsey Road will be temporarily closed during construction.
  • South side of Vandegrift Avenue between Rockland Avenue and Lemay Road. Driveways on the south side of Vandegrift Avenue will be temporarily closed during construction.
  • East side of Virginia Avenue between Crabb Avenue and Ashley Manor Drive. Driveways on the east side of Virginia Avenue will be temporarily closed during construction.

East Side of Virginia Avenue

The sidewalks will be built within the city’s right-of-way, and no trees will be removed. Adjacent residents will receive at least two weeks’ advance notice before construction begins. Residents who will be affected by temporary driveway closures will be notified 72 hours in advance.
