Shape a New Artwork and Tour the City’s Public Art

October 1, 2026

Rockville community members can help shape “Shared Passage,” an 18-by-25-foot sculpture planned for David Scull Park, during workshops in October. They can also explore artwork on display in The Square in Rockville Town Center during public art walking tours.

Five people walk through a colorful archway made of intersecting white rings with stained glass panels in a park setting on a sunny day.

CJRDesign will be in Rockville from Oct. 7-9 for community engagement as “Shared Passage” moves into its final design phase. Feedback from two public workshops will help guide the arrangement of the sculpture’s colorful acrylic panels and arches, as well as a solar lighting option. The team will also visit Maryvale Elementary School for assemblies on Thursday and Friday, Oct. 8 and 9.

The 4.1-acre park is at 1133 First St. The sculpture will be installed at the park’s entrance to welcome and engage visitors.

The workshops are open to the public:

Memory Walk Park Artwork Moves Toward Installation

“Guiding Light,” a work by Dina Fisher, is headed for fabrication as the Memory Walk Park public art project enters its final phases.

Park preparation is expected to begin this month, with installation anticipated for late October or November. A dedication may be held the following spring when weather warms.

Fisher conducted 14 interviews, and a total of six workshops and three community listening sessions, to ensure the artwork reflects Lincoln Park’s historic past and present, along with community wisdom for future generations.

Community Helps Shape RedGate Public Art

The RedGate Park and Arboretum Public Art Survey received 155 responses.

Those who expressed interest in serving on the project’s Public Art Advisory Committee will be contacted soon. Although the committee cannot accommodate everyone interested in serving, respondents are invited to take part in future community engagement opportunities for the project.

Caring for The Square’s Public Art

Artwork in The Square in Rockville Town Center will be cleaned and repaired in coming months.

Some pieces need routine maintenance, while others require repairs because of vandalism.

Community members are encouraged to help care for these artworks, which reflect Rockville’s history and vitality.
