The incident began on Sunday, December 29, when the officer’s supervisor noticed unusual behavior during their scheduled shift and raised concerns about the officer’s welfare. MCPD officers later made contact with the officer, who was in their patrol car near Falls Road and Potomac Tennis Lane.

Over the next 15 hours, law enforcement and support teams worked to communicate with the officer and bring the situation to a peaceful resolution.

The coordinated response involved several units from the department, Montgomery County Fire and Rescue, and the Department of Health and Human Services.

The situation ended peacefully at approximately 6:09 p.m., and the officer was transported to an area hospital where they are now receiving care.
