Ride On Buses Provide Access to Montgomery County Shelters

For Immediate Release: Monday, December 18, 2023

Winter is here and with that comes freezing temperatures that can quickly become unsafe. The Montgomery County Department of Transportation’s Ride On bus service provides access to Montgomery County Shelters.

Homeless families can walk-in to any of the Montgomery County shelters listed below. Homeless single adults can walk into the Crisis Center , no appointment needed, or call 240-777-4000 to learn of current openings. The Crisis Center provides free crisis services 24 hours a day/ 365 days a year.

Ride On Bus Routes to Get There: 15 , 13 , 12 , 20

Hours of Operation

  • Monday – Friday 9 – 11 a.m. (Walk Ins)
  • Monday – Friday 1 – 3 p.m. (Appointments Only)
  • 1st and 3rd Wednesday Evenings (Legal Aid Only, Registration: 6 – 7 p.m.)

Ride On bus fare is only $1 and monthly passes are $22.50 using SmarTrip, cash, or tokens. Seniors age 65 or older, persons with disabilities and youth ages 18 and under all ride free using specialized SmarTrip cards.

Riders can plan trips online using the free Ride On Trip Planner App .
