Get in the game! Montgomery County Recreation will open registration for its winter youth basketball programs on Monday, Sept. 28, at 8:30 a.m. These programs offer a dynamic and supportive environment where young athletes can build basketball fundamentals while developing essential life skills such as teamwork, discipline, sportsmanship, and fitness.
This year’s offerings include leagues and skills clinics designed for youth in grades K-12.
“Youth sports provide children with opportunities to stay active and create lasting connections with their peers,” said Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich. “As registration for Montgomery County Recreation’s youth basketball programs opens soon, I encourage families to take advantage of these programs and give their children the opportunity to learn, compete, grow, and have fun. We look forward to seeing young athletes across the County on the court this season.”

- In person at the County’s administrative office (2425 Reedie Drive, Wheaton, 10th Floor) 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. or at any Recreation Center during business hours.
“Youth basketball is a great way for young people to build confidence, develop skills and, most importantly, have fun,” said Montgomery County Recreation Director Gabe Albornoz. “We’re excited to welcome players of all skill levels for another great season. Gather your teammates, lace up your sneakers, and get ready to play!”

Volunteer Coaches and Officials Needed
Montgomery County Recreation is also looking for adult volunteers to coach. The Department is seeking coaches who are knowledgeable about basketball rules and strategies, demonstrate strong character and patience, and are passionate about helping youth learn and grow. All volunteers must complete a background check and fingerprinting.
In addition, Recreation is seeking officials ages 16 and older who are available on weekends. Training is provided.

If you withdraw from an activity:
- 14 or more days before the start date: Full refund
- Less than 14 days before the start date: Refund less than 50% of the total fee
- On activity start date or later: No refund
- Missed sessions: No refunds for sessions missed by the participant
