Posted on May 3, 2024

For Immediate Release: Thursday, May 2, 2024

The future of the Wheaton Action Sports Park will also be discussed

The featured guests on this week’s En Sintonía con el Concejo del Condado de Montgomery (In Tune with the Montgomery County Council) will include Edith Lozada, Spanish communications specialist and Spanish language public information officer at Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS); Michelle Ramírez, community outreach specialist at Montgomery Parks; and Pedro Rodriguez, consul of El Salvador. The show will air on Friday, May 3 at 2 p.m. on Radio America (WILC 900AM) and is streamed on Apple Podcasts , Spotify and Amazon Music .

The upcoming radio show will focus on the registration process and requirements for kindergarteners at MCPS. Children turning five years old by Sept. 1 can be registered for the 2024-2025 school year through the parentVUE portal. Ms. Lozada will provide all the necessary information about the requirements, which include proof of residency, identification, birth documentation and health forms. Parents who are registering their children for the first time in MCPS must also provide age and immunization records. Required immunizations must be completed within 20 days of registration.

The show will continue with exciting news about the future of the Wheaton Action Sports Park. Montgomery Parks is developing two design concepts for the park located at the Rubini Athletic Complex in Wheaton Regional Park. County residents are invited to participate in a survey , which is open through May 12, to help design the future action sports park. During the public outreach for the Wheaton Regional Park (WRP) Master Plan, the community identified skate parks as one of the most desired amenities not currently provided in the park. This response aligns with a growing regional demand for skateboarding and adventure biking. As a result, the primary recommendation of the 2022 Master Plan is an action sports park in Wheaton Regional Park. The anticipated construction is expected to take place in 2026-2028.

The show will end with information about the upcoming Entrepreneurs Fair, which will be hosted by the Consulate of El Salvador. This event is scheduled to take place on Sunday, May 5, at Veterans Plaza in downtown Silver Spring. The fair will feature entertainment, local entrepreneurs and delicious traditional dishes. Additionally, as we approach Mother’s Day, the Consulate of El Salvador is inviting mothers of all nationalities to join a free dinner celebration on Friday, May 10, at their location in Silver Spring. There will be live music and entertainment. To register click here .

The Montgomery County Council and Radio America have entered a partnership that provides the Latino community with key information on issues and programs. The partnership also provides a forum for residents to express their views and ask questions. The partnership includes the weekly one-hour show each Friday on the Washington metropolitan area’s most popular Spanish language station.
