Police Seek Public’s Help Identifying Human Remains Found in Rock Creek Regional Park

Gaithersburg, MD – Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – Major Crimes Division are asking for the public’s help in identifying human remains found in Rock Creek Regional Park.
On Saturday, March 1, 2025, a hiker in the park discovered a human skull and called 911.
Montgomery County Police and the Maryland National Capital Police – Montgomery County responded to the wooded area and located additional human bones, along with several pieces of clothing, including a winter hat, jacket, and pants. No identification was found at the scene.
The remains and clothing items were sent to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner (OCME) for analysis, which determined that they belong to a Hispanic male in his late teens, approximately 5-feet 5-inches tall. The cause and manner of death will be determined by the OCME.
Detectives are asking for the community’s help in identifying the decedent. Anyone with information that could help in determining who the person is, or if you recognize the clothing as belonging to someone missing, please contact the Montgomery County Police non-emergency number at 301-279-8000.
