Onsite Community Meeting on the Kensington Parkwood Elementary School Safe Routes to School Safety Improvement Project in Kensington to be Held on Wednesday, Sept. 24 – Mocofeed

Posted on September 10, 2025

For Immediate Release: Wednesday, September 10, 2025

The Montgomery County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) will hold an onsite community meeting on Wednesday, Sept. 24, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., to discuss proposed pedestrian safety improvements within the one-mile walkshed of Kensington Parkwood Elementary School. At the outdoor meeting, residents will tour and review each of the planned enhancement areas.

The meeting will begin at the intersection of Clearbrook Lane and Cedar Lane.

As part of a countywide initiative to identify safe and accessible routes for students walking and bicycling to school, MCDOT completed a walkability study for Kensington Parkwood Elementary School in 2019. The study evaluated existing infrastructure conditions and recommended improvements to enhance pedestrian and bicycle safety and accessibility. In October 2024, MCDOT presented the study’s recommendations to the community. Based on community feedback, the proposed plans have been revised.

At this onsite meeting, MCDOT staff will meet with homeowners and community members to review the updated plans and discuss the following proposed sidewalk and pedestrian safety enhancements:

  • Clearbrook Lane: Construction of a new sidewalk on the northern side, from 4513 Clearbrook Lane to Cedar Lane.
  • Dresden Street: Construction of a new sidewalk on the southern side (even-numbered addresses), from Cedar Lane to 4408 Dresden Street.
  • Wildwood Drive: Construction of a new sidewalk on the eastern side, from Parkwood Drive to 9806 Wildwood Drive, including upgraded pedestrian crossings at Roxbury Drive and Parkwood Drive.
  • Parkwood Drive at Clearbrook Lane: Installation of a pedestrian refuge island at the Rock Creek Trail crossing.

The public is encouraged to visit the project website and provide feedback via email to [email protected] or phone 240-777-2192 by 6 p.m., Friday, Oct. 24. Written comments carry the same weight as oral comments. All information provided will become a matter of public record.

Interpreter services will be provided upon request with five business days advance notice by email to [email protected] or by phone 240-777-2192.
