New Montgomery County Permitting Services Podcast Episode Examines ‘Pros and Cons of Being Your Own General Contractor’ – Mocofeed

The latest episode of the Montgomery County Department of Permitting Services (DPS) podcast, “The Pros and Cons of Being Your Own General Contractor,” examines the risks and rewards of managing your own home renovation project. 

DPS Customer Support and Outreach Division Chief Gail Lucas hosts the episode with Residential Inspections Manager David Burch to discuss what homeowners should know before starting a home improvement project.

The episode covers: 

  • What to know before starting a project. 
  • The importance of hiring licensed contractors. 
  • The difference between contractors and subcontractors. 
  • Who should apply for permits. 
  • How DPS can help, including available resources. 

DPS

The Permitting Services Podcast helps educate the community on permitting, safety standards, and development best practices. Episodes are available on the DPS website and YouTube, with airings on County Cable Montgomery at 6:15 p.m. on Tuesdays and other major podcast platforms such as Apple Music, Spotify, and Amazon Music.

Previous episodes have covered topics including accessory dwelling units, building safety, eSolar, residential fast-track permits, special event permits, use and occupancy certificates, and vendor licenses.

The Office of Broadband Programs in the County’s Department of Technology and Enterprise Business Solutions provides technical support for the Permitting Services podcast.

DPS is located at 2425 Reedie Drive, 7th Floor, in Wheaton. The customer service lobby is open from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday; no appointment is necessary. Customers may also contact DPS staff by calling MC 311 or 240-777-0311. For more information, visit the DPS website.
