Montgomery County’s Annual Street Sweeping Program to Begin in April – Mocofeed

Posted on March 19, 2026

For Immediate Release: Thursday, March 19, 2026

MCDOT Salt Sweeper

The Montgomery County Department of Transportation’s (MCDOT) annual street sweeping program is set to begin the first week of April. This effort will run through July and staff will sweep 4,100 lane miles of residential roadways.

MCDOT will post “No Parking” signs a few days in advance of sweeping operations. Cars will not be towed for this effort; however, residents are asked to assist in making sure streets are clear of cars as street sweepers will not be able to return to re-sweep areas where cars were parked.

“This has been an unusually active winter, with multiple snow and ice events that required salt and brine treatments on our roadways,” said MCDOT Director Chris Conklin. “Road salt is highly corrosive to roads and vehicles, and harmful to our waterways. Excess debris can clog our storm drains and cause flooding during severe storms. By keeping your cars off the road, our crews can better sweep curbs and gutters, where salt and debris collect.”

Residents can find the sweeping schedule by visiting MCDOT’s Street Sweeping webpage and clicking on their area within the map. Dates are approximate and may be affected by weather.

These efforts help to promote the health of local watersheds by removing salt and debris that would otherwise drift into waterways.

Last year, nearly 750 tons of debris were collected and removed by crews. Sweeping routes are prioritized based on their proximity to sensitive watershed areas which are identified by the Montgomery County Department of Environmental Protection.
