Montgomery County to Host Community Celebration for ‘Older Americans Month’ on Friday, May 30 in Silver Spring
For Immediate Release: Monday, May 12, 2025
Montgomery County’s Aging and Disability Services—part of the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS)—in partnership with Montgomery County Recreation, will host a community celebration to mark “Older Americans Month” from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. on Friday, May 30, at the White Oak Senior Center located at 1700 April Lane in Silver Spring.
The free event is open to residents ages 55 and over and will feature fitness demonstrations, music, caregiver resources, informational vendor tables and giveaways.

Each May, the Administration for Community Living leads the nation’s observance of Older Americans Month, a time to acknowledge the significant contributions of older adults and raise awareness about aging issues. This year’s theme, “Flip the Script on Aging,” encourages communities to challenge age-related stereotypes and embrace new perspectives on growing older.
“Our older residents are the heart and soul of Montgomery County,” said County Executive Marc Elrich. “They’ve helped build the community we live in today and continue to inspire us with their knowledge, experience and generosity. This celebration is one way we can say thank you and ensure we’re supporting people as they age with dignity, respect and joy.”
