Montgomery County will host its annual celebration of “Bike and Roll to School Day” from 8-9 a.m. on Wednesday, May 6, at Poolesville Elementary School in Poolesville. Montgomery County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) staff and representatives of the County’s Vision Zero Initiative will attend the event to highlight the importance of safe pedestrian connections around schools and promote bicycling and walking as healthy travel alternatives.

The event in Poolesville will begin with a group bike ride with students from three different locations at 8:15 a.m.:

Students will travel along the three designated routes, all meeting at Whalen Commons, located at 19701 Fisher Ave., at 8:25 a.m., for a final group ride to the school.

The biking group, led by MCDOT’s Zeal the Safety Zebra and Montgomery County Fire and Rescue’s Sparky the Fire and Rescue Dog, will finish in front of Poolesville Elementary School. The event will commence with fanfare including music, balloons, giveaways, police officers, firefighters, and firetrucks.

The Montgomery County Police Department, the Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service (MCFRS), and Montgomery County Public Schools are partners in the event.
