Montgomery County Public Libraries to Close Damascus Library for Extensive Renovations on Friday, Jan. 31, Reopening Expected Fall 2026

For Immediate Release: Thursday, January 2, 2025

The Damascus branch of Montgomery County Public Libraries ( MCPL ) will close its doors at 6 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 31, for an extensive renovation project. Located at 9701 Main Street in Damascus, the library is expected to remain closed for approximately 20 to 22 months. Plans are to reopen in fall 2026.

The renovation will include significant updates to both the library and the senior center that shares the building, as well as improvements to the shared common areas. This project is expected to take longer than typical library renovations and will focus on improving accessibility, comfort and functionality for all visitors.
