Montgomery County Public Libraries Is Experiencing a System-Wide Network Outage, Limiting Some Services
For Immediate Release: Tuesday, October 1, 2024
Montgomery County Public Libraries (MCPL) and several other Maryland library systems are experiencing a system-wide network outage due to an underground fire in Baltimore this past weekend. MCPL’s Wi-Fi, public computers, printing, scanning and copying services are unavailable until further notice. The outage may last for several days as repairs are underway.
All MCPL branches remain open, and library users can check out materials.
The fire damaged the fiber optic cable network used by library systems around Maryland, leading to widespread electrical disruptions and the loss of internet services.
MCPL will provide updates as more information becomes available.
For the latest updates, please visit the MCPL website or follow MCPL on social media platforms X , Facebook and Instagram .
