Montgomery County Officials Urge Caution in Advance of Expected Freezing Rain on Saturday, Feb. 8

For Immediate Release: Friday, February 7, 2025

A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 8. With snow and freezing rain expected, Montgomery County officials are urging residents to prepare for slippery roads and bridges.

Precipitation will likely start as snow in the late morning hours before transitioning to sleet and eventually freezing rain through the afternoon. As temperatures warm, precipitation will transition to rain on Saturday evening. Up to one inch of snow and sleet accumulation is expected, and ice accumulations of up to one-tenth of an inch are possible.

The Montgomery County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) Storm Operations Center will activate at 10 a.m. on Saturday to monitor roadway conditions and treat roads as necessary.

Icing also could mean downed wires and power outages. The power utilities serving Montgomery County include Pepco, Baltimore Gas & Electric and First Energy. All have downloadable mobile apps for reporting power outages and telephone numbers:

Residents can visit the County’s Snow Information Portal  to find weather-related information, such as who is responsible for clearing a roadway, track plow progress in their area and report a missed street.

Residents also can sign up for Alert Montgomery , the County’s emergency alert system. Alert Montgomery sends messages by email and/or cell phone via text message.
