Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich and County Council President Natali Fani-González will join Montgomery County Recreation Director Gabe Albornoz and Montgomery History Executive Director Matt Logan to officially launch the County’s 250th Anniversary celebration with the unveiling of a specially wrapped Ride On bus commemorating the County’s Semiquincentennial.
During the event, County officials will announce details of a special July 3 fireworks spectacular and highlight upcoming events, programs and activities planned throughout the summer to celebrate 250 years of Montgomery County history.
The commemorative bus, featuring imagery and themes from Montgomery County’s past and present, will travel throughout the community as a rolling tribute to the people, places and events that have shaped the County since its founding in 1776.
Montgomery County was established on September 6, 1776, making 2026 a milestone year for both the County and the United States as each marks its 250th anniversary. The County’s anniversary celebration will recognize the diverse stories, communities and contributions that have helped define Montgomery County over the past two and a half centuries.
WHAT: Montgomery County 250th Anniversary Kickoff and Commemorative Ride On Bus Unveiling
WHEN: Wednesday, June 10 at 10 a.m.
WHERE:  Leggett Executive Office Building, located at 101 Monroe St. in Rockville. The ceremony will take place in the roundabout in front of the Leggett Executive Office Building and Montgomery County Circuit Court. The event will be held rain or shine.
