Montgomery County Government Recognized as National Leader in Workplace Mental Health for Third Consecutive Year
For Immediate Release: Wednesday, May 28, 2025
Montgomery County Government has been recognized as a national leader in employee mental health and well-being, earning the 2025 Gold Bell Seal for Workplace Mental Health from Mental Health America (MHA). This marks the third consecutive year the County has received this prestigious certification.
The Bell Seal is a national certification program that annually recognizes a select group of employers committed to fostering mentally healthy work environments. The Gold Bell Seal is the second-highest designation awarded through Mental Health America’s rigorous evaluation process and reflects strong performance across four key areas:
- Caring beyond compliance
- Holistic wellness programs
- Mental health benefits
- Workplace culture
“We are proud to be recognized for our ongoing commitment to supporting the mental well-being of our workforce,” said County Executive Marc Elrich. “Public service begins with people. Prioritizing employee mental health and wellness allows us to build a more resilient government ready to meet the present and future needs of our community.”

The County supports employee well-being through a range of initiatives, including events, webinars, an employee assistance program and an interactive wellness app. These programs provide tools and services to help employees manage stress, build resilience, develop healthy habits and navigate life’s challenges both in and outside of work. The offerings are part of a broader effort to reduce stigma, increase access to care and foster a workplace culture where mental wellness is recognized as essential to success.
As May marks Mental Health Awareness Month, this Bell Seal certification highlights the County’s commitment to supporting employee mental wellness and reducing barriers to accessing mental health resources in the workplace.
