Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich to Announce and Sign Veto of Expedited Bill 2-25 – Costly Subsidies to Developers for Office to Housing Conversions
For Immediate Release: Friday, April 18, 2025
Monday, April 21
12:30 p.m.
Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich will hold a press conference on Monday, April 21 at 12:30 p.m. to announce and formally sign his veto of Expedited Bill 2-25. The press conference will be held in the Auditorium of the Leggett Executive Office Building in Rockville.
County Executive Elrich will be joined by concerned residents, community advocates and neighborhood organizations who oppose this legislation. The bill, which was rushed through the legislative process, would automatically exempt certain developers from paying property taxes for 20 years—potentially costing the County hundreds of millions of dollars in lost revenue, producing little additional affordable housing.
The press conference’s intent is to draw public attention to the legislation’s financial consequences, highlight the lack of public engagement in the process and call on the County Council to reconsider its vote and engage meaningfully with residents before taking further action.
WHEN: Monday, April 21 at 12:30 p.m.
WHERE: Isiah “Ike” Leggett Executive Office Building, Lobby Level Auditorium, 101 Monroe St., Rockville
