Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich will be joined by Montgomery County Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) Director Jon Monger to highlight the County’s 2022/2023 recycling accomplishments at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, April 12, at the Montgomery County Transfer Station Recycling Center in Derwood. Notable in the report is that plastic recycling in the County increased by 110 percent between 2020 and 2022.

The 2022/2023 Recycling Summary highlights the County’s recycling efforts and describes new initiatives for additional materials eligible for recycling.

The Montgomery County Transfer Station Recycling Center is located at 16101 Frederick Rd, in Derwood.

Since 2020, the County has increased the recycling of glass, paper, plastic, tires, electronics and various construction and demolition materials.

  • Plastic recycling increased by 110 percent
  • Construction and demolition material recycling increased by 58 percent
  • Tire recycling increased by 32 percent
  • Mixed paper recycling increased by 15 percent
  • Electronics recycling increased by 7 percent
  • Glass recycling increased by 3 percent
