Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich and County Council President Andrew Friedson Celebrate the Grand Opening of the Clarksburg Fire Station

For Immediate Release: Friday, November 1, 2024

Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich, County Council President Andrew Friedson, other Councilmembers, elected officials and community leaders celebrated the grand opening of the Clarksburg Fire Station with a ribbon-cutting ceremony today. Clarksburg Fire Station #35 is located at 23420 Frederick Road in Clarksburg.

“The opening of this new fire station in Clarksburg is a significant step forward for public safety in one of the fastest-growing parts of our County,” said County Executive Elrich. “Our first responders deserve top-notch facilities and resources, and the residents of Clarksburg deserve emergency services that are as responsive and reliable as anywhere in Montgomery County. This station represents our commitment to that standard. For years, our fire and rescue teams operated out of a temporary facility, and today we are proud to provide them with a permanent, state-of-the-art base to serve this community effectively as it continues to grow.”

The new fire station serves an expanding population in the Clarksburg area near the I-270 Corridor and Rt. 355.

“Today’s opening of the fire station marks a major milestone for the Clarksburg community, ensuring it has the vital fire, rescue and medical services it deserves. This station is more than a facility; it is a commitment to faster response times and a strengthened support network for all of our residents,” said County Council President Friedson. “I am grateful to the Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service team and everyone who made this project a reality, moving our firefighters from temporary quarters into a state-of-the-art space that will serve our community for years to come.”

Clarksburg Fire Station #35 is approximately 18,000 square feet and features apparatus bays, dormitory and support space, personnel living quarters, administrative offices and a meeting room. It also includes office space for a battalion chief and a Montgomery County Police Department satellite facility. Apparatus located at the station includes an aerial truck, a tanker and a brush truck. The new station also includes space for future service expansion.

“I am pleased to celebrate the opening of the new Clarksburg Fire Station, a vital addition to the rapidly growing community,” said County Councilmember Sidney Katz, chair of the Council’s Public Safety Committee. “This station, equipped with a police satellite facility and a dedicated community meeting space, is uniquely designed to provide essential services to the residents and businesses in the area.”

The Montgomery County Fire Rescue Service responds to more than 120,000 emergency calls for service and is staffed by nearly 2,700 certified and trained career and volunteer responders.

“This is an exciting day for Clarksburg,” said County Councilmember Marilyn Balcombe. “This community has waited a long time for this fire station, and I am very pleased that the residents in Clarksburg will be assured faster response times and improved emergency services. I know that the County’s investment in this station will have a positive impact on the community for years to come.”

The new fire station furthers the County’s commitment to ensuring its communities are safe and well-served.

“This new state-of-the-art facility provides a permanent base for our first responders and highlights our commitment to ensuring our communities are safe and well-served,” said County Fire and Rescue Service Chief Corey Smedley. “The new station is much needed in this area due to the past, present and projected population density of the Clarksburg area. It currently serves more than 30,000 people within a 25-square-mile area, covering residential, commercial and rural areas. Clarksburg Fire Station #35 is designed to help us address our current and future needs for decades to come.”
