Montgomery County Executive Elrich Will Join Department of Transportation, Department of Environmental Protection and WSSC Water in Rockville for Media Availability to Highlight ‘Salt Wise’ Campaign and Storm Preparation on Thurs

Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich, along with Montgomery County’s Department of Transportation (MCDOT) Director Chris Conklin, Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) Director Jon Monger, Office of Emergency Management and Homeland Security (OEMHS) Director Luke Hodgson and WSSC Water General Manager and CEO Kishia L. Powell will be available at 5 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 4, in Rockville to provide details on the “Salt Wise” initiative and showcase weekend weather preparations.
Salt Wise focuses on the environmental impact that excessive salt can have on local drinking supplies and how the County minimizes the use of salt while keeping roads safe. The program also provides residents with ways to keep sidewalks and driveways safe while protecting the environment.
At the event, there will be tours available of the County’s salt barn, salt mound and salt brine tanks.
- WSSC Water will be available to explain how salt impacts our drinking water supplies.
- There will be a demonstration on how much salt is needed to clear driveways and sidewalks.
