Montgomery County Executive Elrich Celebrates National Hispanic Heritage Month, Sept. 15-Oct. 15 – Mocofeed

Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich will participate in several special events from Sept. 15 through Oct. 15 as the County observes “National Hispanic Heritage Month.” The events will honor Hispanic and Latino immigrants who are making significant contributions to their communities. 

Hispanic and Latino residents make up more than one-fifth of Montgomery County’s population. According to the U.S. Census Bureau’s 2024 American Community Survey, 21.7% of County residents identify as Hispanic or Latino, reflecting communities with roots throughout Latin America and the Caribbean.

“Montgomery County is stronger because of the resilience, determination, and contributions of our Hispanic and Latino community,” said County Executive Marc Elrich. “Generation after generation, Hispanic and Latino residents have enriched our neighborhoods, strengthened our economy, and brought their cultures and traditions to every part of our country. I invite everyone to join us for the Wheaton Hispanic Heritage Month Unity Festival on Sept. 19 and celebrate the diversity and spirit that make Montgomery County such a vibrant place to live.” 

Events celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month will include: 

  • Tuesday, Sept.15-Thursday, Oct. 15: A social media campaign recognizing several Hispanic County employees. 
  • Saturday, Sept. 19: Wheaton Hispanic Heritage Month Unity Festival from noon to 4 p.m., at Marian Fryer Town Plaza, 2425 Reedie Drive in Wheaton. For more details, visit the Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration. 
  • Tuesday, Sept. 22: The County Executive’s Latin American Advisory Group (LAAG) hosts an event recognizing community leaders. 
  • Friday, Sept. 25: County Executive Elrich will visit Latino-owned businesses in East County to highlight the Latino small business community. 
  • Tuesday, Sept. 29: County Executive Elrich will be the featured guest on ‘Montgomery al Día’, the County’s Spanish-language radio show. The show airs from 2 to 2:30 p.m. every Tuesday on Radio America 900. To listen live, visit radioamerica.net or the County’s Spanish Facebook page, Montgomery County en Español. 
  • Thursday, Oct. 1: The Montgomery County and Morazán Sister Cities Committee will host its 15th Annual Hispanic Heritage Month Gala from 6 to 10 p.m. at Glenview Mansion, located at 603 Edmonston Dr. in Rockville. The annual event celebrates Hispanic heritage and culture, as well as the longstanding sister-city relationship between Montgomery County and Morazán, El Salvador. Montgomery County Public Libraries (MCPL) invites the public to Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month with MCPL by hosting engaging programs throughout the month that celebrate the stories, traditions, and voices of Hispanic and Latino cultures. From author talks and music to family-friendly events, programs at library branches will explore literature, history, music, and traditions that reflect the richness and diversity of Hispanic and Latino heritage. In celebration of MCPL’s 75th anniversary, the library will also feature 75 Books for Hispanic Heritage Month, a collection of children’s books celebrating Hispanic and Latino stories and cultures.
