Montgomery County Department of Environmental Protection to Host Energy Summit with Expanded Sessions and Interactive Demonstrations on April 8 and 9 in Silver Spring

For Immediate Release: Wednesday, March 19, 2025

The Montgomery County Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) is hosting the 12th Annual Montgomery County Energy Summit on Tuesday, April 8, and Wednesday, April 9, at the Silver Spring Civic Building, located at 1 Veterans Place in Silver Spring. This year’s event will feature new educational sessions, hands-on workshops and personalized assistance resources designed to help building professionals move beyond basic energy benchmarking.

“Buildings are one of the biggest contributors to greenhouse gas emissions, so improving their energy performance is essential if we’re serious about meeting our climate goals,” said Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich. “The Energy Summit is a valuable resource for building owners, property managers and anyone involved in construction or operations to learn practical ways to reduce emissions, save energy and lower costs. It’s also a great example of how we can bring people together to solve problems and create a more sustainable future for Montgomery County.”

New for 2025, the summit will feature an interactive “treasure hunt” style Energy Audit provided by Pepco. This hands-on workshop will allow participants to identify energy-saving efficiency opportunities, evaluate mechanical systems and identify potential efficiency improvements in various building components. Space for this special demonstration is limited , and early registration is encouraged.

“The Energy Summit consistently provides actionable strategies that drive meaningful progress toward zero emission buildings,” said DEP Director Jon Monger. “Building owners and managers looking to prepare their covered buildings for Building Energy Performance Standards will find the Energy Summit provides timely resources and connections to support successful compliance.”

Featured educational sessions include:

  • Solutions and Technologies for Affordable Electrification
  • Tower Companies & Runwise: Successful Building Decarbonization Pilot
  • Electrifying Fleets: Financing Strategies for Montgomery County Businesses
  • Policy Pathways for Building Decarbonization: Clean Heat Rules
  • Sustainability at Scale: Portfolio Planning with LEED Perform
  • Integrating High-Performance Design in Multifamily Buildings
  • Electrifying Fleets: Financing Strategies for Montgomery County Businesses

The summit will also debut a dedicated BEPS solutions support desk, where attendees can receive one-on-one guidance on compliance pathways, technical solutions, permitting support, available financing options and implementation timelines.

“The Energy Summit consistently provides actionable strategies that drive meaningful progress toward zero emission buildings,” said DEP Director Jon Monger. “Building owners and managers looking to prepare for Building Energy Performance Standards will find the Energy Summit provides key resources and connections.”
